Your questions, answered.
Everything you need to know before reaching out for the first time.
If you don't find your question below, please reach out directly — our practice manager will be happy to help.
How do I get started?
The fastest path is to send us a message on the Contact page, call (916) 990-2326, or email Info@PinnacleCounselingGroup.com. Our practice management team will help you find the right therapist and get scheduled for your first session — usually within a few business days.
What insurance and payment options do you offer?
We accept private pay and some PPO insurance plans. Our practice manager will verify your benefits before your first appointment so there are no surprises. We also provide superbills for clients with out-of-network insurance who plan to seek reimbursement.
For a complete breakdown of session rates and payment options, see our Rates & Payments page.
Do you offer telehealth (video) appointments?
Yes. We see clients both in person at our Sacramento and Gold River offices and virtually throughout California. Many of our clients combine the two depending on their schedule. All telehealth sessions are conducted on a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform.
Do you do psychological evaluations or write medical notes for disability and similar requests?
Our clinicians do not perform formal psychological evaluations, court-ordered assessments, custody evaluations, or write letters for disability, ESA, or workplace accommodations. We focus on ongoing psychotherapy. If you need an evaluation, we're happy to refer you to a colleague who specializes in that work.
How long is a typical session, and how often do clients meet?
Most individual sessions run 50 minutes, and couples sessions are typically 50–75 minutes. We generally recommend weekly sessions when starting out — consistency is what allows the work to take root. Once clients are well into their work, some shift to a bi-weekly cadence. That said, we're happy to work with you to make therapy work with your schedule and needs. Please reach out.
How long does therapy last?
That depends entirely on what you're working on and what you're after. Some clients come in for a few months to navigate a specific transition or rupture. Others develop a longer-term relationship with their therapist as a place of ongoing support. We discuss your goals and pace early on and revisit them as the work unfolds.
Is what I share kept confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is a foundational part of our practice and is protected by California state law and HIPAA. The only exceptions are the legally mandated ones — risk of serious harm to self or others, abuse of a minor or dependent adult, and court orders. Your therapist will walk through these specifics with you in your first session.
What if I'm not sure which provider is the right fit?
That's exactly what the complimentary consultation is for. Our practice manager will speak with you about what you're looking for, what's worked or hasn't in previous therapy, and what kind of clinician would feel right — and then match you accordingly. We take fit seriously; it's one of the strongest predictors of whether the work will be effective.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 hours' notice for any cancellation or reschedule. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice may be billed at the full session rate. Life happens, and our clinicians work with you when it does — but consistent attendance is part of how therapy works.
Do you see children, teens, and families?
Yes. Our practice serves individual adults, couples, and younger clients ages 8 through 18. For more on our work with young people, see our Children & Teens page.
What does Pinnacle Counseling Group specialize in?
We specialize in high-functioning anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) — including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) — eating disorders, attachment-based therapy, trauma healing and PTSD, substance use and compulsive patterns, modern relational therapy, and couples work rooted in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). We're also LGBTQ-affirming, multicultural-attuned, and experienced working with veterans and military families.
Where are your offices located?
We have two offices in the region: our Sacramento office is located at 2335 American River Drive, Suite 305 (Campus Commons), and our Gold River office is located at 11201 Gold Express Drive, Suite 200. We also provide secure telehealth services to clients located anywhere throughout California.
What happens at a first session?
Your first session is an introduction. Your therapist will ask about what brought you in, what you've tried before, and what you're hoping for. There's no pressure to share everything at once — pace matters, and we let you set it. By the end of the first or second session, you and your therapist will have a working sense of where to focus.
Do you treat OCD?
Yes. OCD is one of our clinical specialties. We primarily use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the most well-researched evidence-based treatment for OCD, and integrate it with other approaches as the work requires.
Do you offer therapy for high-functioning anxiety?
Yes — it's a core area of our work. High-functioning anxiety often goes unrecognized because the person managing it appears to be functioning beautifully on the outside. We treat it as the real condition it is, with both the symptom-level work and the deeper relational and attachment-level work that makes change durable.
Do you treat trauma and PTSD?
Yes. Trauma and PTSD are a core part of our clinical work. We use evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches — integrating somatic work, attachment-based therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and other modalities — to help you process past experiences and reclaim a sense of self and safety. Pace matters: we move with your nervous system, not against it, and we have particular experience working with veterans and first responders.
Do you treat substance use or addiction?
Yes — for adults seeking outpatient psychotherapy. We work with clients whose relationship with alcohol, substances, or compulsive behaviors has become a source of struggle, addressing the underlying emotional and relational patterns that drive the behavior alongside practical support for change. We are not a detox, intensive outpatient (IOP), or residential program; if a higher level of care is appropriate, we’ll help you identify the right next step.
Do you work with clients from multicultural backgrounds?
Yes. Our clinicians are multicultural-attuned and experienced working with clients across a range of cultural, ethnic, and immigrant backgrounds. We approach identity, heritage, and community as essential context for the work — not as an afterthought — and we hold space for the particular ways culture shapes family, relationships, expectation, and selfhood.
